[Grammar] He gestured the customer to take a sit at the table

Am I right when I say: "He gestured the customer to take a sit at the table"? Do I need any preposition after the verb "gesture"?
 
Am I right when I say: "He gestured the customer to take a sit at the table"? Do I need any preposition after the verb "gesture"?
Either use "He gestured to the customer", or, "He gestured for the customer".
 
"To take a seat at the table" or "to sit at the table".
