A. How's your boyfriend?
B. He is history.
He was history.

Could either is/was be correct?

Both sentences are grammatically correct, but in this context (even if there isn't much) I would say only "he's history" is correct. The other one might be used later by A, speaking to someone else (whom I sall call C):

A: I asked _____ about her boyfriend. ________ told me he was history.
C: It's no big surprise to me. I always thought they really were a mismatch.
