She (Nora) caught sight of the cover of "Your Cat magazine. A ginger tabby. Her mind felt loud, like a Sturm und Drang symphony, as if the ghost of a German composer was trapped inside her mind, conjuring chaos and intensity.
. . .

(The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, episode Doors)

(Annotation: Nora's cat "Volt" was recently run over by a car)

What does "Her mind felt loud" mean in this context? Is there a synonym for "feel loud"?

Doesn't it say that it was like a Sturm und Drang symphony in her head?

Sturm und Drang means storm and stress.

Maybe you are right. However "feel loud" is different from "like a Sturm und Drang symphony" and so they express something else in my opinion, even though they correspond with each other - or would you say they are identical? Is there a synonym for "feel loud" in this context? Maybe the verb "roar" or "boom" could do: It roars/booms in her mind or head like a Sturm und Drang symphony.

Sturm und Drang means storm and stress.
In addition, in this context "Sturm und Drang" refers to the short "Sturm und Drang"- period of the history of German literature and music.

This has nothing to do with German literaure.

The idea is that her mind felt loud, busy, noisy, with lots of voices, similar to how a Sturm und Drang symphony sounds.
