Up means out of bed. It's 3:00 AM. I text you.
Hey, are you up?
Would you understand that I'm asking[STRIKE]/checking[/STRIKE] if you're in bed yet?
"No, I'm not awake"?In the texting context I'd take it to mean Are you awake? People often text each other while lying in bed, especially in these days of covid-19.
I will listen to you. ;-) I like to overanalyze stuff that doesn't need it, too.If you're up, can you still be in bed? I don't think of awake and up as the same thing (e.g. some people get up to answer the phone), but I won't fault anyone who does.
G., don't listen to me!
How did you do that? I could use it.If you ever text me at 3am, it won't matter what your message says! I have my phone set to "Do Not Disturb" between 11pm and 7am.

It's "Do not disturb" on my Google phone running Android 11. You can have up to three schedules. Mine turns on "do not disturb" at 10:00 PM and switches it off at 5:59 AM on weekdays and 8:00 on weekends. I have it configured to "Allow repeat callers If the same person calls a second time within a 15-minute period" and to allow calls from my starred contacts, so emergency calls and calls from family and friends ring through. It's a facility that's available on iPhones, but I imagine there's a similar function on most smartphones.
