Hello,

In Poland, It is customary for married couples or close friends to display friendly feelings to one another.

It consists in one person placing a "clamp" on the other person's calf, squeezing a little harder with fingers and saying 'do you know how a horse bites'.

Is there something like that in your country?

I'm glad to say not in Australia.
What's "caly" and "garderoby"?

It should be calf and harder. Sorry on behalf of my mobile phone.

Thanks. Nope, nothing like that. It must be uncomfortable.

I get the concept, and can't think of anything similar in English, but do people really grab the calf? That seems like it would be really awkward to bend down and grab their leg.

Are you sure you meant the calf (a lower leg muscle) and not something on the arm, say a bicep or tricep? I have occasionally seen people grab someone by the upper arm when greeting in a manner similar to what you describe, but we don't have a specific term for it.

Edit: I just remembered 'goosing'. If you 'goose' someone, you pinch them on the buttocks. It takes the name from the sharp nip geese can give a person. Since 'goosing' can be a sign of affection, I suppose this is a fairly close parallel in English. It can also be used as a practical joke, though.

Note my corrections above. However, I'm not sure about the "clamping" part. I think the word you're looking for might be "pinch".

Such a custom does no harm to another person. As I said, you slightly grab hold of another person's calf and delicately squeeze it with your fingers and the sole of your palm (where the palm joins the wrist). Is is not as harmful as it might sound.

I just want to explain something. There is no need for anyone to bend down to do the goosing. It is customary for men to show their women how a goose pinches. They don't to it to their bums.

Consist of = be made up of, which i didn't mean to use here. I think it should be consist in = include, involve, entail.

Yes, you are 100 % right. They (women) could as well sit cross-legged, which would make it easier to do the goosing on condition that both persons sat.

I'm pretty sure that "goosing" refers to the pinching of bottoms (buttocks) only.
