Hi All

Let’s assume we are going to make an exam and we want our students to answer some questions about a text. This is the text...

“”“People in different countries talk in different ways at work. In Japan, people don’t like to say “no” directly. Because they want to be polite. If they don’t agree, they may stay quiet or use soft words.

In Germany, people speak more directly. They say what they think, even if they don’t agree. This is normal for them. They believe it helps them work better.”””

Which of these questions is grammatically better and more appropriate. Is the first one, somehow, acceptable?

- How are Japan and Germany different in the way they talk at work?

- How do Japanese and German people differ in the way they talk at work?

Thanks

Countries cannot talk; only people can.

I'd say:
What is the difference between the way Japanese and the Germans speak at work?

@murat guler, when you posted this thread you had already received a reply to the same question from WRForums.

Please do not post the same question simultaneously to more than one forum. Doing so wastes our valuable time. Instead, post your question to one forum and wait for replies. If you're not satisfied with those replies, you can try another forum, but please indicate in your thread that you've already asked the same question elsewhere (provide a link), and outline why you were not satisfied with the answers you received already.

Well, I am trying to reach as many people as I can. Is this a serious problem? Should I delete one of my posts?

Rover has now provided a link to the thread on Word Reference so you don't need to delete your thread here. However, bear in mind in future that if you ask us a question you've already asked somewhere else, you must provide a link to the other thread and explain why you're unsatisfied with the responses you've received there.

The second sentence is good. The first one isn't because you're asking about the customs of people, not countries.

I don't know why you would be trying to reach as many people as you can. The answer is probably going to be the same no matter where you ask it.
