I'm back with another question. ^^

One friend usually replies "not much" whenever I ask him "How are you?"

Is that an appropriate answer? I know I can give that reply if the question is "What's up?" but I'm not sure for "How are you?"

No, "not much" is not an appropriate response to "How are you?"
