How far have you got?
How far along are you? (Though be careful with this sentence as it can also mean "How many months pregnant are you?"!!!)

I agree with you but, certainly in the UK, we regularly use "how far" when talking about progress:

How far have you got with your homework?
How far have they got with that report I asked for?

It's much more informal than "How much progress have you made with your homework?"
