How long before can I reach the airport

You're still working, but know that you will be laid off at some point. Then, your question works fine.

But still I don't understand " How long have you been laid off?" How could it be used for the future?
 
Tdol's response referred to your original sentence - "How long before you get laid off?" If you're still working but you know you will be laid off at some point, it's fine. Tdol quoted Tarheel's question in his response because Tarheel seemed to be suggesting that your original sentence could not be used. Tdol disagreed, and so do I.

I was talking about this question, and what I thought was the topic of the thread.
