How to use conjungtion "than"

I just finished watch good movie "Letters to Juliet" I absolutely like it, If who just still in love I suggest to watch it.

I don’t know how your story ended,
but if what you felt then was true love then it’s never too late.
If it was true then, why wouldn’t it be true now?
You need only the courage to follow your heart.

This is the letters, juliet write back I think I quite know all of word talking about when I read all and guess it but for to sure I would like to know who to use conjungtion "than" and what does then is this sentense mean.

I corrected and marked some of your mistakes.
() means I'm not fully sure.
/ means either could possibly be used.

In those sentences then refersto the past.
What you felt then was true love.
What you felt some years ago was true love.
(That was one of many examples.)

The other then is some kind of conclusion.
If it was love then, then it is never too late.
This is a logical conclusion.

Than is a completely different word.
It's better to find the true love late than never.
Use than when you compare something.

I love you more than he does.
Finding the true love is more difficult than expected.

If it was true then (~ that time ~) why wouldn’t it be true now? (this is not the second conditional)
You need (only) the courage to follow your heart, only. (The all you need is the courage to follow your heart.)
