A few years ago, I talkd to a guy in a language learning forum. (A forum where I can learn foreign languages, like our forum) The guy told me he was an author. Reading from his profile, I thought so. Later I tried to add him to my contact list. He refused it. Is my sentence natural?

I asked the author I met in the language learning forum to add me in his contact list, but he refused.

I asked the author I met in the language learning forum to add me to his contact list, but he refused.

I wonder if this version is good now.

I had thought that was probably the case, from reading from his profile. I thought so. Later, I tried to add him to my contact list. He refused it to accept/add me. Is my sentence natural?
