2. I can’t go on holiday because I broke my leg.

In Practical English Usage, Michael Swan says that Sentence 1 is correct but Sentence 2 is wrong. I wonder if you agree with him?
 
I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear an American produce sentence 2. In fact, it sounds more natural to me than sentence 1.
 
I'd use #1, but I wouldn't say #2 is wrong.
