I've checked the lyrics and it doesn't seem that he says: "How did love slip away?", because he speaks so fast and soft....

Could anyone help me?

I just watched the video you linked to and he definitely sings "How did love slip away?" He stresses it rather oddly, in that he puts the stress on the word "did" and by the time he gets to "away", you can really only just hear the first syllable, the "-way" part kind of disappears, but the lyrics are correct.
