Do I need plural or singular pronoun for data?

1. I collected data and analyzed them to draw conclusions about the process of treatment.

2. I collected data and analyzed it to draw conclusions about the process of treatment.

Strictly speaking, "datum" is the singular of "data". However, often when "data" is used, "a set of data" is implied. In that case, the singular would be appropriate.

And bear in mind that the majority of native speakers treat "data" as if it's singular (except in technical contexts) so they would say "data ... it ..." and wouldn't bat an eyelid if you said the same. In fact, quite a lot of native speakers would think "data ... them ..." is wrong!
