Is "the" optional before "most" in the first sentence and before "best" in the second?

1. "I like sunny weather the most."
2. "The worst season of the year in my country is winter, but summer is the best."
 
Yes, although I'd use "the best" in sentence #2 because of "The worst" at the beginning. With sentence #1, you'll also hear native speakers say "I like sunny weather [the] best".
