I must go now.
a.I promised not being late.
b.I promised to not be late.
c.I promised not to be late.
d.I promised I wouldn't be late.

Is option d correct?

NOT A TEACHER

Yes, we use "would" to talk about a time in the future from a point in the past.

I must go now.
a.I promised not being late. -- Not grammatical.
b.I promised to not be late. -- Pedants will be upset with this because "to be" is "split" with the "not." I don't have a problem with this, though the test grader might.
c.I promised not to be late. -- This answer is okay
d.I promised I wouldn't be late. -- This answer is okay.

Is option d correct?

I don't know why d is a better choice than c.
