In the sentence you gave, "very much" could only naturally be replaced by "to a large extent". Your other suggestions would result in an unnatural sentence.

Here are two other examples:

They have disappointed her very much.
We are looking forward very much to living in that apartment.

The second is fine. The first would probably be expressed as "They have really disappointed her."
