Which preposition is correct?

At the time the baby was born, I was in/at the hospital. I liked her right from the beginning.

In BrE, it's "in hospital" if you're the patient. If you're a visitor, then it's "at the hospital".

At the time the baby was born, I was in/at the hospital. I liked her right from the beginning.

Both are possible in American English. With in, you were a hospital patient. With at, you were in a hospital building. I would guess you meant present at the birth, but other interpretations are possible.
