This is a practice text for the speaking part of the IELTS exam. Please correct it and make it colloquial.

Topic: Describe a performance you enjoyed watching. (Source)

You should say:
  • what the performance was
  • when and where you watched the performance
  • who was performing (or, who performed)
and explain why you enjoyed the performance.

My response:
A few years ago, I watched a magic show performed by Shin Lim on YouTube at home. He was competing at America's Got Talent, and his forte is card magic. Every trick he did in the video was amazing. One trick was that he needed to guess which card his guest had chosen. He asked the guest to choose a card in mind and shuffle the deck and randomly divide the stack into two. On the top of one of the stacks was the card the guest had picked. He got the correct card! Another trick was that he needed to switch the card from his guest. First, he asked the guest to kiss the card queen of diamond so that her lip stick was left on it, making the card unique. Then, he chose the two of heart. They both fold and bit on their cards. However, when they unfolded them, they were switched. I didn't know how he did that. When did he swap the cards? I watched the video again and again but still couldn't figure out how he did that. In an interview, he said he used to want to be a pianist but he got hurt on one of his hands, so he gravitated towards performing magic, which brings happiness to others and gives himself satisfaction. I believe he spent a lot of time and effort on practising sleight of hand. When I watched his show, I felt encouraged and it’s motivated me to work hard on what I like to do.

I'm pretty sure I would just say I saw it on YouTube. Also, I'm pretty sure I would say his specialty is card tricks. (I've never heard of "card magic" before.)

You probably need at least one line break

Second paragraph.

He asked a guest (one of the judges) to pick a card out of the deck.

One trick was that he needed to guess which card his guest someone had chosen was thinking of. He asked the guest one of the judges to choose imagine a card, in mind and then he shuffled the deck and randomly divided the stack into two. On the top of one of the stacks was the card the guest judge had picked! He got the correct card!

Another trick was that he needed to a card switch. the card from his guest. First, he asked the guest a judge to kiss the card queen of diamonds so that her lipstick was left on it, making the card unique. Then, He then chose pulled the two of hearts from the pack. They both folded and bit on their cards. However, when they unfolded them, they were switched. the lipstick was on the two of hearts! I didn't don't know how he did that. When did he swap the cards? See above. Please learn to put paragraph breaks in your texts. Looking at one single block of text is quite daunting!

In those talent shows, the competitors don't have guests. If they involve an extra person, they use one of the judges (or sometimes one of the presenters).

The lipstick was not on the two of hearts. Shin Lim got the queen of diamonds from the judge and the judge got the two of hearts from Shin Lim. Their cards had swapped.

Ah, I see. I thought the lipstick swapped. In that case, say "However, when they unfolded them, Shin Lim had the queen of diamonds and the judge had the two of hearts!"

I think what they call it is a matter of perception. The performer would like to call it "card magic", while the audience would call it "card tricks".
