This is a practice text for the speaking part of the IELTS exam. Please correct it and make it colloquial.

Topic:

Describe a time when the weather prevented you from doing something. You should say: (Source)
  • what your plan was
  • what weather you were hoping for
  • what happened
and explain how you felt when you had to change your plans.

My response:
Five years ago, I was planning to travel to Singapore, but my passport was expired, so I made an appointment to renew it. I were hoping for a sunny day for the appointment. Unfortunately, there was a strong typhoon hitting Hong Kong. Almost everything shut down. I was very upset because time slots were full during that month. Maybe because it was near the travel season, people were urge to renew their passports.

At first, I still wished the typhoon would go away in the afternoon. I knew that if I missed that time slot, I would need to wait for another month. Also, I might have to reschedule all my flights and hotels' bookings, which could cause me to pay a great amount of money. What was worse, if my parents knew that, I was sure they would told me off. I really regretted my decision to renew my passport so late. I should have checked the expiration date earlier. At least five months before my trip would be ideal.

During my self-blaming, the weather got worse. I could feel my apartment was moving and I felt dizzy. That was the first time I'd felt my life was at stake. I didn't want my apartment to collapse. At that time, I almost forgot about my passport problem. However, I'll never forget that experience because it taught me to get everything ready earlier before going for a trip.

During my self-blaming, While I was busy blaming myself, the weather got even worse. I could feel my apartment building was moving and I felt dizzy. That was the first time I'd felt my life was at stake in danger. [I didn't want my apartment the building to collapse.] At that time, It was so distracting, I almost forgot about my passport problem. However, I'll never forget that experience because it taught me to prepare everything in place earlier before going for on a trip.
See above. I don't really think you need to put "I didn't want the building to collapse". That's a given. No one wants their building to collapse!
