"If yes" in a questionnaire

In a questionnaire, is it correct say "If yes" instead of "If so"?

e.g. Have you ever applied for grants? If yes, please answer the following questions.

(Is "If yes" is short for "If your answer is yes"?)

Can other words be used in the same way?
For example, "If no", "If others", and "If B" to mean "If your answer is no", "If your answer is others", "If your answer is B (when there are A, B, C, etc.)"?

At some stage you're going to run into comprehensibility problems. Obviously, it also depends on how you asked the previous question.
Most official forms that I can remember filling out say "If you answered 'Yes' to this question, go to Question 6 (or whatever)."
