The organization believes that by supporting the families who care for children with special needs, it can change conventional understanding. In so doing, it hopes to help these children become contributing members of society.


Is the underlined part "In so doing" equal to "In doing so"? Is there any difference between them?

They mean the same, but if we use the "doing so" word order, we're more likely to say "By doing so ..." It wouldn't be wrong to say "In doing so", it's just that "In so doing ..." is more common
