What would be a good idiomatic way to describe the life in the public eye? I don't think my versions are idiomatic.

I think being famous isn't easy. Celebrities live under constant scrutiny. They don't have a sense of personal space. Well, they do, but they are hardly ever alone. Whenever they go out, they are followed by fans and there are cameras directed at them. They are always in the public eye.

Context: a general opinion about the disadvantages of being famous.

By and large, they are. :)

They don't have a sense of personal space.
I'd change this. I think you mean They don't get any time to themselves.

Saying that someone doesn't have a sense of personal space usually means that person intrudes on others' personal space, in a physical context, as in coming too close to you when they speak to you, for example.

Do you mean the rest doesn't need to be changed?

The other sentences are all grammatical and, if you take each sentence by itself, they're all idiomatic.

The passage as a whole can be improved in terms of style and flow but that'll come with practice.
