Hi,

Need help! I'm working on a write-up to credit a piece of artwork. This write-up will be placed beside the art work. Should it be 'This mural is designed by xxx or This mural was designed by xxx. Or are they both ok?

I would use "was" before "designed by". If you remove "designed" you can say "This mural is by [name]".

Thanks for your reply! Some sources told me both are correct and I have actually gone on to print some copies which says 'is designed by', could someone explain the difference between these two phrases? Thanks!

not a teacher

The design was done and completed in the past, obviously the past tense is appropriate.
