Context:

As more details emerge about survivors’ and victims’ experience in the rain, the focus of attention is now shifting to the city’s emergency response mechanism. Caixin News reported Wednesday that in the SUV-driver case, the driver’s wife repeatedly pleaded for help from the rescue team parked nearby, but it took action only after it heard that “the official had arrived,” according to the wife.

NOT A TEACHER

I have heard it pronounced as S-U-V, so pronouncing each letter without making one word out of it. According to Longman, that is also how it's pronounced, see http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/SUV and click on the

button.

Yes, say each letter.

In BrE, though we don't use the term very much, I have only heard it pronounced letter by letter.
