Hallo teacher,

I read a sentence in which I feel a verb is missing, but I could be mistaken, in case it is an idiom. The sentence goes like this:

"If art making is going through this adventurous and tortuous path, imagine what the kind of water in which painting is currently navigating."

Can you verify?

Thank you very much.

"...what kind of water painting is ..."

The entire sentence is rather clunky.

I agree but what you offer is clearly not what is meant...

If you know what is meant, why are you asking for help here?

My main problem with the sentence is that it is attempting to create a contrast between "art making" and "painting". Isn't painting a type of art?

Hmmm, interesting ... I will think about this.

Also, we usually refer to things navigating "waters".

It would read better to me if it said imagine the waters which painting is currently navigating. It's not an idiom, but the sentence is a bit of a mess.
