for a reading comprehension passage which is a narrative of a past event,

say a question is given - "Why did Roy take the wallet?"

which is correct?

"It is because he wanted to find the owner."

OR

"It was because he wanted to find the owner."

thank you for any advice !
 
Welcome to the forum, ivyleaf.

Start every sentence with a capital letter.

I would say 'He took it because he wanted to find the owner'.

NOT A TEACHER.

I would say It WAS ....... because it refers to what happened in the past.
