Jasmine could not see opposite people for too long. She didn't fear them. She feared that her eyes would give her away. That people could see the darkness in her heart seeping through her eyes.

I think the confusion is that you said "see opposite" instead of "sit opposite." The rest is fine.

The word in red above is incorrect. I clicked on the link (once I'd fixed it) and I can see that it is in the original caption even though they correctly omitted it in the name of the file.
