Hello

Is it correct to say keeping a pet is time-consuming? As a disadvantage of keeping pets, I want to suggest that it takes time and money.

Is this correct?

Not only is keeping a pet time-consuming, but it is also expensive.

We usually say "having a pet" or "owning a pet". The rest is OK. Whether it's time-consuming or not depends on the pet.
