I would like to know which preposition I should choose for the following sentence:

'The French army landed at Nottingham or in Nottingham?
 
* Not a teacher

Both prepositions can be used after to land, but in this case "in" is the right choice.

When did the French army land at/in Nottingham? Nottingham is an inland city in the midlands of England.

They could have landed at East Midlands Airport.

That's true, I don't remember hearing of an airborne invasion of the east midlands though.
