[Vocabulary] Meaning of the word

Hello Friends,
Myself Vishal and basically working in metal working industry. Thats why I have to
frequently come across many technical terms. I recently heard a term-"Proof Machining".
I searched the meaning of the term in many technical & Engineering Dictionaries but could not
get a satisfactory & straight-forward answer.
Can anybody explain the meaning of the word "Proof" in the term "Proof Machining".

It seems to mean the metal part is machined to near its final shape, so all you need to do is use your machine to do the final, precision machining.
