Presently, when I write a letter to a company (no matter whether the company is "(Name of person) & Co., Ltd." or not, I don't put "Messrs." to the company's name.

Do I have to put "Messrs." before the company's name if the company's name is, for example, "Snappy & Co., Ltd."?

"Messrs. Snappy & Co., Ltd.

Dear Sir or Madam:
"

or

"Messrs. Snappy & Co., Ltd.

Dear Sirs (or should I write "Gentlemen" instead?)
"

I usually address the company as follows:

"Snappy & Co., Ltd.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Messrs is the plural of Mr (Mister) so you wouldn't use it in a company name unless the name of the company actually has the word "Messrs" in it already.

At the beginning of a letter you would usually say "Dear Sir" or Dear Sir/Madam".

However, if you know the name of the person you are writing to, then you would say "Dear Mr Smith". If you are writing to two brothers, who are both called Mr Smith, it would become "Dear Messrs Smith".

The traditional way of addressing a business letter is:
Mr. Name
Snappy & Company
address
address

If you are writing to two men or more, the inside address would read:
Messrs. Name and Name
Snappy & Company
address
address

If you are writing to unknown people at the company, the inside address would read:

Snappy & Company
address
address

And then the salutation would read:

Dear Sir or Madam:

:)

Ouisch and emsr2d2, thank you. I understood.
