Hello for the last time tonight,

Is there much difference between "munch through something" and "munch one's way through something"?

For instance:

Rex is such a greedy dog. Before you know it, he has munched through a pack of crisps.

or

Rob does have a sweet tooth. Last night he munched his way through one big bag of rum balls.

Both the phrases are supposed to mean "eat a lot".

What is your opinion?

They don't. They mean they completely finished the said comestibles in one go.
