My favourite band/group is/are

I have a doubt :
can you say "My favourite band are The Rolling Stones" or "My favourite group are the Rolling Stones" ? Or should it be singular ? My favourite band/group is....?

I would say, My favourite group is the Rolling Stones but, the Rolling Stones are my favourite group, in BrE both are correct.
