Re: Pronoun Subject

My ice cooler doesn't slide up the back of the tray when I reach[STRIKE]ing [/STRIKE]for a beer.

The sentence does not make any sense. Please explain the underlined part. An ice cooler is just a box to keep things cool.

Re: Pronoun Subject

When the subject of the participle is different from the subject of the main clause, the pronoun subject is right?

My ice cooler doesn't slide up the back of the tray
when I [STRIKE]reaching[/STRIKE] reach for a beer.

Note my corrections above. I don't understand the blue, underlined part.

Could you try to explain what you mean by this? I am struggling to imagine what doesn't happen here.

I learnt that an adverbial participle clause can have its own subject, but when the subject is pronoun such as I, it is not correct.

So, I asked if the use of I is correct in the sentence or not because I can find that kind of structures a lot.

. . . My ice cooler doesn't slide up the back of the tray when I reach for a beer.
Rkatk, you still haven't explained what this means. It doesn't make sense. Coolers don't slide up trays. Reaching for beer does not cause a cooler to slide.

Can you tell us more about what you're trying to say?

I don't know exactly, but I think it is about the truck. Please, consult the original writing from the site above.

Aha! Thanks. I didn't notice the link.

The writer seems to be calling the truck bed a tray. (Maybe that's what the British call it.) So I think the writer meant:

My ice cooler doesn't slide to the back of the truck bed anymore, so now I can reach a beer.

Please, consult the original writing from the site above.

Please note that when Please starts a sentence we omit the comma. Examples:

Please hand me that thing.
Please give me another piece of cake.
Please speak up.
Please speak lower your voice.
Please make breakfast.

It's not a sterling example of the language. He made a divider for his truck bed. Now his beer cooler can sit there and it is prevented from moving when he reaches for it. That's all. He calls the bedliner on the bed of the truck a "tray" for some reason.

Yup. As I say, maybe Brits call a truck bed (or, as you say, bed liner) a tray. Let's see what one of them says.

(I mean, if they can call a truck a lorry, anything's possible.)

I looked at the site and didn't get any the wiser. It may make sense to truckers.
The photo helps. It shows a wooden grill near the front of the truck bed, which would keep a loose cooler from sliding out of reach.

I hope he doesn't fish around for beer while he's driving!

Fishing for beers is a duty of the guy riding shotgun.

I noticed a few things. The OP in the linked site has a number of grammar and spelling errors in just the post in question, but other forum posts are riddled with errors such as random capitalization and tense errors. I suspect he might be a fluent non-native English speaker.

I needed an excuse to procrastinate*, so I browsed through his other threads on that forum, hoping to confirm a nationality and maybe first language influence. He lives on Ascension Island, but with no permanent residents or native population, there's not much to base a guess on. If you want to see pics of his truck and some family, search the forums.

Also, this truck he's talking about was shipped to the island from the UK.

As for reaching for the beers - it's a hardtop covered bed (notice the hinges and pneumatic holder) which opens from the back, so you'd have to be standing at the tailgate to open it and reach for the cooler.

As for the 'tray' reference - it looks like he has installed a slide-in bed liner, which may be what he's calling a 'tray'. They basically are a form-fitting tray.
