Present Perfect Simple or Present Perfect Continuous?

My neighbours have been owning their house since 2020.'

Could you explain if there is a mistake, please. Thank you.

Should I use the present perfect simple or the present perfect continuous in the following sentence?

My neighbours have been owning their house since 2020.

Could you explain if there is a mistake, please.

Thank you.

The use of the present perfect continuous in that sentence is 100% wrong. We don't use the verb "own" that way. You either own something or you don't. You can't "be owning" it.

The meaning of the verb 'own' here is stative, which is why the continuous aspect doesn't work. Owning a house cannot be understood as an action.
