Hello,
I stumbled upon unusual usage (at least to me) of the adjective "great". I mostly associate it with a positive connotation, but in the following quote it seems to carry extremely negative meaning.

Quote: "All you need to do is to advance; you will thus understand that some things are less to be dreaded, precisely because they inspire us with great fear. No evil is great which is the last evil of all." (Letter 4 of Seneca's Moral letters)

Is the adjective "great" used here in the meaning of "large"?

Any help is appreciated.
Have a nice day
Zdenko

It's not used in a negative sense. It simply means large, as you suggested.
