Gospel of John 12:27 (NIV): “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.”
What does "it" refer to?

Did you read the passage right before that? About the time coming to glorify the Son of Man? About the kernel of wheat that has to fall and die so that it produces many seeds?

What does it refer to?
Can you see how the confusion occurred (ie the reason SoothingDave didn't answer the question you thought you were asking but jutfrank worked it out?) There's a big difference between "What does it refer to?" and "What does "it" refer to?"
