Hi everyone. I have the first sentence, and then I change it for the two other sentences which have the same meaning. Could you please tell me if they are correct? Are all of the three sentences the same?

  1. He is the tallest boy in his class.
  2. No one in his class is taller than him.
  3. No one in his class is as tall as him.

#1 and 3 have the same meaning. #2 doesn't.

All three are commonly used, but "than he" is grammatically correct.

And some use than he is.

Sentence 2 means that someone in the class is as tall as he is, doesn't it? Therefore, he isn't the tallest.

It might, but it doesn't have to be the case.

It's true that no one is taller than him. However, someone else could be exactly the same height as him. Sentences 1 and 3 exclude that possibility but sentence 2 allows for it.

If someone is as tall, then he would be the equal tallest.
