[Grammar] Not... but rather Expression

I would like to know in which circumstances I can use the expression "NOT something BUT RATHER anything else" and if this expression is grammatically correct.

first of all, thank you for your quick feedback.

Since I am not a formal student, but a self learner, I would like to evaluate the following phrase I have received from my boss in US: "I give you this not so we can be successful from Finance standpoint, but rather as a way to help you prioritize areas to address first".
