Do you call a notebook just a note?

e.g. I bought a note at the stationery store.

Often I can understand what is meant when someone uses the wrong word. This would make me confused.

Thanks- you can never be sure that something isn't in use somewhere in the English-speaking world, so I err on the side of caution, but it would sound very strange to me.
