Can both on and for be used in the following sentence? Is there a difference between them?

e.g. Shall we go for/on a holiday?

Shall we go on holiday? (no article)

Yes, you can use either, and there's no difference.
for a holiday
on a holiday
on holidays
on vacation
for a vacation
on a vacation
How about we take a holiday/vacation?
What do you say to a holiday/vacation?
Who's for a holiday/vacation?
Maybe it's time to think about a holiday/vacation.
...

So even in this case would be fine: Go on/for a business trip ?

Hmm, "going for a business trip" is not common. We weren't talking about business trips.

A: Are you going for a holiday?
B: No, on business.
