A couple has one son and one daughter. I want to say that the son is only son to his parents if someone counts only the number of sons of the couple. Which is correct expression? 1. He is an only son to his parents. 2. He is the only son to his parents. 3. He is only son to his parents. 4. He is the only son, though not the only child, to his parents. 5. Any other expression? But it should start with He is and should not include the word daughter. One more question: Can I say, The parents have a son when the parents mean a couple?

He is his parents' only son.

We wouldn't normally say "a son to his parents", if we were to use that construction, it would be "... of his parents".

I don't really understand what you mean by the final question: "The parents have a son". I guess it depends on whether the boy's parents are still together - if they are, then they're a couple, but if they've separated, they are still his parents, but they're not a couple.

My second question was that if a couple has a son and I want to use the word PARENT, how I should express.
1. The parents have a son.
OR
2. The parent has a son.
