Hi everyone, I wrote this question:-

Could we have our today's class by Skype, please?

My Irish friend said its wrong and I have to say one of these:-

Could we have our class by Skype today, please?
OR
Could we have today’s class by Skype, please?

Can someone please tell me why "our today's class" is not correct? I think if I shared a salary with someone I could say "This is our month's salary." Is it because "month" is a noun and "today" is an adverb. I'm lost!

Thanks!

I am not a teacher.

Today is a noun, not an adverb, in "today's class".

Just out of curiosity, what was your Irish friend's explanation?

She's not a teacher. She knew it was wrong but can't explain me why.

I am not a teacher.

Your example of "our month's salary" looks good at first glance, but the problem is that month needs some sort of determiner. You can't say, "This is month's salary." but you can say, "This is our month's salary." or, "This is last month's salary." and so on.

Today, on the other hand, is used without determiner (unless it's a proper noun such as "The Today Show"), so you can't say "Our today's xxx" but just "Today's xxx".

It's really simple! It's because "today" doesn't need a determiner we can't say "our today".

Thank you!
