Can a noun and a gerund be used in one parallel construction?

e.g.
She likes books and playing sports.
The company deals with employing and training of people.

Yes, though the second is not an example of this.

Dear Tdol,
Could you explain why the sentence
The company deals with
employing and training of people
is not an example for the thread question? Employing is a gerund, but training is a noun here, isn't it?

For one thing it's not a natural sentence. For another a gerund is a noun, or at least a verb acting as a noun.

What makes it unnatural and how can it possibly be corrected to escape it?

It depends on what the company actually does, "employing and training of people" is not very clear.

Some companies hire and train their employees so they can perform specific tasks.
