Since the advent of applied linguistics as a sub-branch of linguistics serving practical needs, there has occurred a change in the world of linguistics.
Can anyone give a good paraphrasal of the underlined sentence apart from "change hhas taken place in the world of linguistics"

kind regards,

I would say:

Good luck...
