Since the advent of applied linguistics as a sub-branch of linguistics serving practical needs, there has occurred a change in the world of linguistics.
Can anyone give a good paraphrasal of the underlined sentence apart from "change hhas taken place in the world of linguistics"

There has been such modifications to the linguistics world.

I think s/he'd be wanting something in correct English.
"Such" doesn't work in this sentence. What does it refer to?
