Is it wrong to use 'participants' instead of 'respondents' for closed-ended survey data?

Asked and answered here.

WOULD IT BE wrong to use 'participants' instead of 'respondents' for closed-ended survey data?
I'm not sure what "closed-ended survey data" is. I assume that "respondents" are people who responded to the survey. Why in the world would you want to use a different word?

Responses to questions that are chosen from a closed set of options, such as when the instruction is 'tick all that apply'.

Yes, 'respondents' is the best word for this, when the participation is this minimal.
