Hi. Is "proudly" used here in its direct meaning: feel proud? It sounds odd for me.
"Maulali Ishaqzai was a 35-year-old Kandahari Pashtuna of the underdog Ishaqzai. Tribal politics were in her blood. She had connections all over the Ishaqzai and Taliban. She hated how the Taliban treated women but delighted in the romance of fighting for tribal honor, including against Americans. Pashto was proudly her first language."
