Dear teachers,

In the following sentence "It's time that we broke with traditional beliefs."

Is it OK to use "break"?

not a teacher

'break away from' is more common.
It means 'to depart from/not to conform to'.

Hello sjc55, I'm not a teacher, but I hope my advice helps!

"It's time that we broke with traditional beliefs."

The word "it's" is present tense. You should say: "It is time that we break away from traditional beliefs." Do not use the past form of "break," which is "broke"; instead, always keep your sentences one tense (however, there are few cases where you must use two different tenses in one sentence).

I hope this helps!
